Hey! How's it going? I am just wrapping up finals, and trying to update my portfolio all while hunting for a job! It's a bit stressful, but I wouldn't trade it for anything.
I forgot to mention this illustration I commissioned to do for http://givinghusband.com back in September! The client was looking for a contemporary, friendly illustration of a married couple giving each other that "Look of Love". The trick was to create character's that any number of people could relate to, while still being specific enough to make a visual impression. If I did my job right, a couple in their 50s will identify with the "Giving Husband" couple just as much as a couple in their 20s.

Yesterday I wrapped up my five week biology course, and today I finished designing a company newsletter.
I am very tired, and would like to not be anywhere at all for a while.
I have taken several pictures of myself at work over the summer, and they all look exactly like this one here.
If I could be any artist, I would like to be Daniel Smith, and this is why. (for further evidence, go here >> http://danielson.info/site/index.php/about/ and listen to his nieces interview him about God and art)

inda neat. This week I got the chance to do some artwork for a greeting card. The card is supposed to be for someone who is about to go through confirmation. I honestly wasn't too familiar with this religious ceremony, but now I have honored it with a greeting card so I am basically an expert.
I was given pretty strict requirements for the art, from content to color scheme, style, layout and so on. But I found a tiny bit of wiggle room to implant enough of my own style to satisfy my raging ego, and the end result is pretty seamless. There will be some major modifications to the artwork beyond what I did, and obviously there will be copy in lower half of the card, so the final product(if it's picked up) will look pretty different.

Work has been slow lately. So I am using my precious internship down time to work on cleaning up and redesigning this place a bit, and hopefully add some new content soon. But for the most part, the site is finished now, probably. I think the writings page may be pretty interesting, but I'm still internalizing it/working out the kinks in my mind, so it may be a while before that sees any progress.
Over the weekend I watched "The Brothers Bloom" with my dad. I was expecting it to be a glitzy rehash of "The Sting", but I was surprised by a fresh, fanciful story with genuine heartfelt moments. The film deals with the dynamics of this father-son relationship between the older and younger Bloom, and the idea of "growing up" as sort of a continual process. Most people will probably draw connections between 'Bloom' and Wes Anderson films, mostly because its style is time transcendent, and the cinematography is heavily influenced by 70s Italian films. If you get a chance, check this out on DVD. It's a good movie to lose yourself in. And Adrien Brody is terrific, as always.
